Do I need a 2.1, 5.1, 5.1.2, 7.1.2 etc?

A small setup (5.1) will be sensational and is the entry to surround sound.

A more serious setup 5.1.2 or 7.1, with the extra effects channels, is becoming the standard.

Extra channels 9+ are typically used for dedicated home theatre.
